Town Hall Happenings

Saugus announces Rabies clinic

The Saugus Canine Officer and the Board of Health would like to remind dog and cat owners of their legal obligation to have their pets vaccinated against rabies. The Rabies Clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7 between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Saugus Canine Office located at 515 Rear Main Street. The cost of the vaccination is $10.00 per shot.

Rabies is still prevalent in Massachusetts. Saugus has recently experienced one positive case. Rabies is spread through a bite or a scratch from an infected animal. Pets are the most likely bridge between wildlife rabies and people. To best protect yourself adhere to several common sense principles: vaccinate cats and dogs and maintain updates; keep pets restrained at all times; and never approach or feed wild or stray animals.

If you have questions regarding rabies or the clinic, please contact the Canine Officer at 781-231-4176.

Curbside Leaf Collection May 12 - May 16

Curbside leaf collections will take place the week of May 12 – 16 on your regular collection day. There will be no “missed pickups” conducted. The Town asks that you please do your part in proper preparation for disposal. We ask that you abide by the following rules:

  • Leaves must be out for collection by 7 am on your regular rubbish collection day.
  • Leaf containers must be physically separated from trash and recycling.
  • Paper leaf bags are preferred for leaf disposal. If barrels are used to contain the leaves, remove covers so the leaves are visible. No plastic bags or cardboard boxes will be accepted. No branches or brush will be collected.

Please note that separate trucks collect the rubbish, recycling and leaves; so the leaves may be collected at a different time of day.
