Saugus Community Calendar

The Saugus Memorial Day Parade will be held on Saturday, May 24, from 9-11 am, along Central Street in Saugus. There will be ceremonies at Riverside Cemetery and in front of the Saugus Town Hall. The parade is organized by the Saugus Veterans Council with assistance from the Saugus High School band, the Saugus American Legion, VFW, and other town organizations. The day before, May 23, the veteran graves will be decorated at 3 pm. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this annual patriotic event.

World Series Park is proud to announce that a team that is part of The North American Women’s Baseball League will play some of their home games at the park this season.

Tryouts will be held this Sunday, May 18 at 5pm at World Series Park. Girls and women of all ages are eligible. Softball or baseball experience is welcome. The registration fee is $20.

This is the only women’s hardball, baseball league in Massachusetts. Games will be played in Lynn and Saugus. The season runs June-August. For more information contact Robin Wallace at robinwallace17@hotmail.com.

During the season the team will be conducting a free clinic at World Series Park for girls and women interested in learning how to play baseball or how to improve their skills. A date for the clinic has not as yet been decided.

Tuesday, May 27, 6:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St, Saugus. This is an annual service honoring our graduating seniors and encouraging them to “go with God” as they face new and exciting challenges. The speaker will be Rev. Ray McDaid from South Congregational Church of Peabody, and special music will be performed by the Saugus High School Choir under the direction of Ms. Nancy Lemoine. Students will participate in reading Scripture passages, and there will be a Junior send-off. Following the service there will be refreshments in the parish fellowship hall. All graduates, their family and friends are welcome to this inter-faith event.

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs, VA Boston Healthcare System, will host a “welcome home” event for Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 10:00am until 2:00pm.

Veterans and their families will be treated to a day of food, fun, free raffles, and important information on benefits, services and job opportunities available to OEF/OIF veterans.

This will take place on the grounds of the National Archives and Record Administration, 380 Trapelo Road, Waltham. For more information, please call Revere Veterans’ Services at 781-286-8119.
