One of the first actions taken by the board of select-men Tuesday night was to reinstate the Citizen’s Forum and put it back into the regular agenda for selectmen meetings. Board Chairman Donald Wong told all in attendance that it was his decision to take citizen’s forum off the selectmen meeting agendas and at the time he thought it would help run the meetings faster and more smoothly.

“To me, it was purely a business decision and not meant to take away anyone’s freedom of speech,” Wong said of his decision. “In doing this, I wish to reunite the board and residents of Saugus for the betterment of our town. It’s not time to come together to solve the many problems facing Saugus.”

Wong also said after hearing the residents of Saugus, he now thinks the reinstatement is the best thing to do.

Selectmen Steve Horlick and Michael Kelleher, who fought to have citizen’s forum put back onto the agenda, thanked the chairman for his wisdom and courage.

Chairman Wong thanked colleagues Selectmen Steve Castinetti and Peter Rossetti, Jr. for supporting the reinstatement.

The final board vote was unanimous, 5-0.
