The Saugus Sachems Pop Warner A Squad Cheerleaders are joined for a photo in the State House on the left side by Representative Kathi-Ann Reinstein, Head Coordinator Marissa Kelleher, Representative Mark Falzone, and Team Mother Fran Contino and on the right side by Head Coach Jeana Forestier, Senator Anthony Galluccio, Team Mother Diane Martino, and Katie Hyde from Senator McGee’s office. Team members included Shannon Balser, Giana Calcagno, Gina Casazza, Deeana Contino, Katelyn Dennis, Elizabeth Downs, Nicollette Ford, Gianna Frisco, Ashley Giuffrida, Kayla Gray, Shannon Hook, Jessica Marino, Alanna Martino, Melissa McCarthy, Jamie Palladino, Deanna Santosuosso, Jillian Smith, Sophia Stockwell, Dana Tapley, and Courtney Thurell.

Representatives Mark Falzone and Kathi-Anne Reinstein and Senators Anthony Galluccio and Thomas McGee were pleas-ed to welcome to the Massachusetts State House the Saugus Pop Warner A Squad Cheerleaders, who won second place at the 2007 national championship. The Saugus “Sachems” A Squad team and coaches were honored as the 2007 New England Champions and for their outstanding performance on December 7 at the National Championship competition held at the Walt Disney Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. Competing against numerous teams from around the country, their second-place performance was only one point away from first place.

Representative Falzone praised their accomplishments. “This entire team showed great team effort and made our community very proud. Their teamwork, community spirit, and never-say-die attitude set a fine example for all of us—kids and adults alike. They represented the very best in Saugus and in Massachusetts,” said Falzone.

Representative Reinstein noted, “These talented young women exemplify the highest levels of teamwork, integrity, and determination,” stated Rep. Reinstein. “They should be extremely proud of what they were able to accomplish this year”

Senator Galluccio stated, “This cheerleading team continues Saugus’ proud tradition of excellence in youth sports. I am proud of the tireless efforts and per-severance displayed by this team and its dedicated coaching staff in competing at the highest level,” Galluccio said. “I was also impress-ed by the maturity and poise exhibited by the team when it visited the State House.”

Senator McGee said, “The Saugus A squad is an incredible group of young athletics. Their accomplishment is a tribute to their enormous talent and dedication to teamwork. The entire town should be very proud.”
